RESET: Making the most of this Coronavirus break

  • Author: Ranata Wright

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the widespread Coronavirus. While we don’t have all the facts or know the logistics of it, it’s safe to say that this is a very serious matter. As of right now, schools are closed, people are working remotely, store shelves are empty, and people are being asked to quarantined themselves to their homes. Amidst the uncertainty of it all, my ability to find a silver lining in everything has certainly worked to my advantage. During this time off, don’t view it as a bad thing. Make the most of it.

How often do we sit down and wish that everything would just pause so that we can enjoy life around us? How often do we hope for extra time with our kids, our spouses, or just ourselves? Well this is it. And we have to realize that just because our blessings aren’t wrapped the way we expected doesn’t make them any less of a blessing. I know the hustle and bustle of everyday life can be consuming, so let’s focus on ways to make the most of this time of rest and restoration.

If you have kids, now is the perfect time to really engage with them. Spend time with them, cook meals with them, watch movies and really just enjoy their company. When you think about it, especially if you’re in the work force, we are away from our kids majority of the day. Take this time to relish in this moment of being with them. It may seem like a lot at times, but I can assure you that they’ll appreciate spending quality time with you and vice versa.

If you don’t have kids and you’re off, enjoy YOU! Relax yourself. Unwind. A lot of our favorites spots that we frequent aren’t open, so it may be time to put some DIY self care in effect. See my last post, thank me later! If you have to be out to be and about, keep your social interactions to a minimum. CDC recommending limiting your social gatherings to less than 10 people and that’s just enough people to have a dope, intimate kickback.

Creatives!!! Where you at??? This is our time babyyyy! While life around us is at a standstill, that doesn’t mean your work should be. This is the time to throw yourselves into your brand. Brand yourself, promote yourself. Market your products. CREATE. CREATE. CREATE. People will be online more than ever. Make sure they see you!

And lastly for those who are still required to go to work, this is a perfect time to find your tribe and lean on your tribe for support. This is a difficult time for all of us, but with the right people in place, it’s much easier to alleviate the stress.

For everyone else, stay safe, be vigilant, WASH YOUR HANDS! But y’all knew that already. Stay informed and patiently await better days. They’re coming sooner than you think.
