Double Standard or Just Tacky?!
If you have been following singer/rapstress Lizzo, then you know she's been making waves with her fashion statements. Lizzo is a plus size music artist who has been on the scene since 2012 but didn't start making waves in the music world until 2019 with her third album "Cuz I Love You", landing her a Number 1 single on the Billboards and a Soul Train award for Album/Mixtape of the year.
Her performance outfits are comprised of fancy leotards, mini shorts, fishnets, fur, and more. Sometimes her street style isn't far off from that either. However, Lizzo recently got the world buzzing when she attended a Lakers game. Lizzo's song Juice played and she got up to drop it low revealing that her t-shirt dress was cool, calm, and collected on the front but party in the back with a cutout showing her thong...thong...thong *Sisqo Voice*.
Sis has since been publicly dragged on social media, which raises the question. Is there a double standard when it comes to who can wear bold and sexy fashion?
Now this isn't the first time a musician has been ass out at an event. Take Rihanna's 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards look where she bared her breasts and a thong in an Adam Selman gown made out of 230,000 Swarovski crystals. We raved because it was a look!
Is this any different from Lizzo's look? Some say Lizzo's look was inappropriate because there were kids around. Are we harsher on the plus-size community? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
