Why rice water ain't it...
In the natural hair community there's always some new trend to try. First, it was putting mayonnaise in your hair to give more shine (yuck), then preparation H to help "grow your edges", currently, the new thing is rice water. Many naturals are claiming that rice water has aiding in growing their hair strands OVERNIGHT.
Chiillle, when it is all going to stop!!!!
I don't know about ya'll but I'm tired of all of these so say "miracles" that are supposed to un-snatch your edges. But if you're like me- because let's be real, we all want something to help our hair become healthy, I did my research and this is what I found.....
Fermented Rice water is said to help strengthen and "repair" your damaged hair overnight. The recipe calls for rinsing one cup of rice with one cup of water to rid the impurities off then you're to place rice w/water in a covered bowl overnight (fermentation happens) storing it in the fridge. Once you're ready, use a strainer to pour the water in a container and then apply to the hair after shampooing and conditioning. Allowing it to sit on your hair for 2-5 mins, then wash out as normal. It's supposed to be done every night to see the "best" results.
After one wash (aka the next morning) your hair should feel and look 90% stronger, thicker, and longer.
Now I'm not expert on hair but girl, our hair is said to only grow 1/2 inch per month (genetics differ). Yet many naturals have claimed that rice water is a miracle worker. *Old Kanye shrugs* Like many great things there is also negative effects to applying rice water to your natural hair...
Some naturals have claimed that after using rice water their hair has hardened and it broke off (possibly because how fermented the water was). Also, it has been known to leave the hair dry, brittle, and lacking moisture. Listen chile, with many things in life there could be negative and positive consequences BUT I'm just not feelin' it! Rice water ain't it....at least to me.
But do you boo! If you are brave enough to try it then girl be my guest, but I'll be over here eating my fruits, drinking my water, and minding my business. Cuz that's how to grow healthy hair, from the inside out. Good luck dolls! And leave a comment letting me know if you've tried rice water and what your results were.
